WE GET BY WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM OUR FRIENDS

It’s getting late in the year, and due to the bad weather some of the flowers were damaged, so we'll have to go planting again.
We picked our tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries, and gooseberries and shared them amongst the neighbours. It’s just a pity we don’t get more financial help. We had some funds from regeneration but it cost double the amount that was given.
Again I’d like to thank all who was involved working in the garden as we could not do it without them; especially the MRA garden committee. We hope to do well in Tidy Towns this year; for the second year running they kept us out of Going for Gold despite having come 2nd and 3rd a few years in a row. But on the bright side, we have a 1916 Remembrance Garden that is the only one of its kind.
Here are some updated photos. Again we would like to thank Willie O’Dea TD and Councillor Frankie Daly for their input in going forward with our garden. We would like to have 3 full-time garden caretakers in the garden looking after it and it would take people off the dole and we have volunteers to do that but for some reason when I went down and asked in Watch House Cross the L.E.S never got back to us after saying they would. This is again the height of discrimination.
More updates to come.
Kind regards,
Tom Daly, Chairperson MRA
MRA STANDS BY NORTHSIDE COUNCILLOR

The Moyross Residents Alliance (MRA) has come out in defence of Councillor Frankie Daly and has castigated the Labour Party for their ignorance of Bunreacht na hÉireann (the Constitution of Ireland).
MRA Chairperson, Tommy Daly has criticised the Labour Party’s Tom Shortt, saying that the former Councillor needs to go back to school and learn about the Constitution of Ireland.
“I was surprised with Tom Short in last week claiming that Cllr. Frankie Daly no longer represents the Labour Party on the Council. Does Mr. Shortt not realise that Councillors do not represent any party on the Council, they represent the communities that elected them; he needs to go back to school and learn about the Irish Constitution, Article 28a and the role of Councillors.” said Mr. Daly.
“Perhaps if Mr. Shortt had actually represented our Northside communities when he was on the Council he might have kept his seat. The MRA held several meetings with Mr. Shortt and Moyross residents when he was a Councillor, but he never raised any of our issues, even
though he promised he would. People voted for Frankie Daly not because he was on the Labour ticket, but because they know he is a man of his word, he had promised to vote for Cllr. Hourigan to be the city Mayor months ago. What kind of man would he be if he went back on his word?” added Mr. Daly
ARTICLE 28A
1. The State recognises the role of local government in providing a forum for the democratic representation of local communities, in exercising and performing at local level powers and functions conferred by law and in promoting by its initiatives the interests of such communities.
“Frankie Daly has always been above party politics, that’s why he had no problem in opening our 1916 Remembrance Garden with Willie O’Dea TD, a member of Fianna Fáil. At the end of the day, our Constitution is very clear, our Councillors are elected to represent communities, not political parties and the Labour Party has shot itself in the foot by censuring Frankie Daly, they should remember that they need him more than he needs them.” concluded Mr. Daly.
The MRA would like to thank Cllr Frankie Daly and Willie O’Dea TD for opening our 1916 Remembrance Garden on Saturday 25 June 2016. We would also like to thank Brendie Daly, Ger Crawford for the stone work, Keith Meade, Chloe Daly for a beautiful rendition of The Foggy Dew, Steve Marshall, Dee Murphy, Jamie Daly, Angela McNamara and the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal for blessing the monument and the plaque

Here are some photos of the event and we will have a video uploaded to YouTube shortly.

Updates on Regeneration meeting held in Moyross school

It was great to see the people of Moyross coming out and bringing issues to light on the new building of apartments in Cliona park, and also the digging up of the roads and footpaths.
Obviously, the residence of Cliona park were very critical about the contractors and the health and safety issues and the blatant disregard for people both young and elderly. I can safely say, whats happening to these people would not happen in any other area in Limerick or even Ireland, the MRA has already sent emails to the health and safety department in Dublin, officers came down and looked at the issues in Cliona. Some of them were resolved but now they are back to the way they were. So we are appealing to the council and the office of regeneration, the department of environment to get these issues sorted out for the residence of Cliona and other areas. This is blatantly against all human rights what is happening to them.
There is also an issue with the building of apartments in Cosgrave park, they are building on green areas, and the residence there are oblivious about it despite the fact that the council and office of regeneration had implied that the residence knew all about the plans and were happy with them. Why cant the office of regeneration have locals on the regeneration committee and let people have a further insight as to whats going on in their areas, as they have done in Fatima Mansions in Dublin, and also Bally-mun. The people their can have a proper say about what is going on in their own areas. So we had councilors and a TD at the meeting so its up to them now to look after the residence who voted them in and uphold their rights.
The MRA would like to thank the organizers of the meeting, Dean Quinn & Ellen Duffy, along with all the other organizers.
Im sure there will be alot more meetings to come.

Health & Safety Progress

It's great to see Conack Construction complying with the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) regulations by providing banksmen / pointsmen to guide their trucks in and out of the site in Cliona Park safely; the safety of our community is paramount.
The later starting time of 8am is also welcome. The MRA is also delighted that thanks to the HSA and Michael O'Kelly of the Office of Regeneration that contractors cutting up the roads are now dampening down the dust.
Construction Hazard in Relation to Cliona Park Apartments
Posted 8 years ago, 22 Mar 2016
by Mark Hester
Serious Health and Safety issues for the residents of Cliona Park apartments with the builders showing scant regard.
Once again the Moyross Residents' Alliance chairman, Tom Daly, has been bombarded with calls from unhappy residents about the behaviour of Conack Construction .. Dust from the site is coming in through nearby residents' windows, front doors, settling on top of roofs and destroying their cars. More importantly it is affecting children and adults that suffer from severe asthma.
Other contractors are also digging up the roads and cutting concrete paths with con-saws and are also not using any water to prevent dust; this is blatantly a major health and safety issue and again it would only happen to the Moyross community with zero respect from the construction companies involved when they are working around peoples homes and belongings. Starting work at 7am in the morning when children are off from school for the Easter holidays is unacceptable.
We are going to put in an official complaint to the Office of Regeneration, the Council and other bodies to sort this matter out once and for all.
