MINISTER MEETS WITH MRA

The Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Simon Coveney TD, paid a visit to Moyross today to turn the sod for the €3 million upgrade of the Community Centre.
Chairperson of the Moyross Residents' Alliance, Tommy Daly, was the only member of the invited audience to ask the Minister a question after he addressed those assembled. Tommy asked the Minister what he would do to salvage the promised distributor road that would end Moyross's status as the largest cul-de-sac in the country.
Afterwards, Minister Covney mad a point of speaking with Tommy, asking for his email and website address, which was noted by the Ministers secretary, and promising to be in touch regarding the road and other issues such as community participation, anti-social behaviour and horses.
"I was delighted that my contribution from the floor was well received and I couldn't believe it when the Minister made his way down to speak to me afterwards. I hope he keeps his word and will be in touch with the MRA about these issues that impact on our community" said Tommy.

The kids helped out with the big clean up today in Delmege Park organised by the Moyross Residents' Alliance. Well done to everyone, they always come out in force every year!

Nearly 5 years ago the MRA wrote to the Council on behalf of the residents' of Delmege Park, who had brought up the issue of rat infestation due to domestic rubbish being dumped illegally in a nearby field. Here we are almost 5 years on, and they're finally doing it. The photo's show the before (nearly 5-years ago) and after (the recent clean-up).
NORTHERN DISTRIBUTOR ROAD SUBMISSION

The Northern Distributor road is now being backed by various well-known companies such as Johnson and Johnson and Northern Trust. They are also able to outline the great advantages the new road will bring both to Limerick and Clare. Our local Councillors need to vote with us and not against us, to help An Board Pleanala make the right decision in going ahead with the road. Rejection of the project would be a major setback for both business and the public. The new road will allow job creation and easier access to UL bringing much needed business and tourism to the city, As well as enticing other large companies to relocate here. After all there was only 3 Councillors that voted for this road, Councillor Daly, Councillor Leddin, and Councillor Gilligan. The general public take their hats off to these Councillors for there’s votes in supporting the road, having the future of limerick and county Clare in mind. After all you have to admire Clare, as they voted for it, the only thing holding us back is An Board Pleanala and Limerick City Council. Limerick regeneration watch chairperson, Cathall McCarthy and Tom Daly were at meetings Almost a decade ago now about this road, where John Fitzgerald said this road was vital for limerick and the progression of the city. He also said that the north distributor road would put an end to the cul-de-sac in Moyross which was facilitating the anti-social behaviour. Due to the fact the Garda access is limited to 1 way in and the same way out.
When making the decision about this road An Board Pleanala need to take into consideration the beneficial factors this road would bring to the city now and also for future generations to come.

Its coming up to 10 years now, and the people of Moyross are waiting on the council and government bodies to end the cul-de-sac of Moyross, Meaning to Northern Distributor Road from Coonagh to Knocklasheen. This is vital for the people of Moyross and the north side, you have Councillors complaining and objecting and saying that it is an unnecessary development. '' This is crazy '' Said Tom Daly, Chairperson of the MRA, '' the people of the North side want this road to go ahead ''. It was in the Fitzgerald report when it came out in the regeneration plan. John Fitzgerald said the most important thing was to end the cul-de-sac of Moyross. Nearly 10 years on their are still Councillors in Clare and Limerick objecting. I just cant believe that these people are doing this, i hope in time they will see the good that the building of this road will bring, and the amount of job opportunities that will arise because of it. (Let common sense prevail).

MICHEAL OKELLY RETIRES

The Moyross Residents Alliance Chairperson Tom Daly would like to wish Micheal O'Kelly the best of luck and hopes he has a happy retirement, and would also like to thank him for helping the people of the regeneration areas. Going forward we had ups and downs but in the end we always seem to come out on the right side for both of us, with a bit of dialogue. A good person and would listen to peoples problems through the regeneration process which is still ongoing. So on behalf of the people of Moyross and the MRA committee, we would like to wish you all the best for the future.

LESS PRISON....MORE PARK

The Moyross Residents' Alliance (MRA) supports the demolition and replacement of the "Berlin Wall" that runs between Delmege Park in Moyross and Thomond Village on the Old Cratloe Road.
"This wall is not only an eyesore, but it's not fit for purpose. It is badly damaged in places and is a health and safety concern. " said Tommy Daly, Chairperson of the MRA. "I remember in 2008 when I had to get JCB and fix the wall myself because part of it was cracked and falling in, that was 8-years ago and it's falling in again" said Tom.
The wall also acts as an escape route for anti-social and criminal elements and the Gardaí can't give chase, as Tommy explains "in 2006 there was a shoot-out between rival criminal gangs and they picked Delmege Park to have it in. We had our windows shot in and residents were terrified, some even abandoned their homes because of it, there was 58 spent shells found in my square alone, it was really frightening, the Guards got here just in time to see them disappearing over that wall"
"The Council says it has a policy of 'open-spaces' to reduce anti-social behaviour with passive security, they also say that our problem in Moyross is that we are a cul-de-sac, well Delmege Park is that cul-de-sac at the top of Moyross. That wall needs to be replaced with a lower wall with railings that is more suitable to a residential area and a road that gives better access to the Guards in Mayorstone, which is only 500 yards away instead of them having to drive all they way up through Moyross a mile and a half to a dead end" said Tommy.
"The MRA would like to thank Dean Quinn for starting a petition and drawing attention to this. The MRA is working with Cathal McCarthy of Limerick Regeneration Watch to develop more detailed and formal proposals to the council like the one by the Weston Gardens Residents Association, Less Prison More Park. As you can see from the photo's the wall changes from a nice railings to a prison looking compound that the Guards can't see or get through, they would have a much quicker route into Moyross as well." concluded Tommy.
